How long does it take?
X-rays are very fast, and depending on the
number of pictures required can take between
5-15 minutes.
Do I need to book?
You can generally just walk in and have your X-
ray done on the spot, however you can book if
you wish.
How does it work?
X-ray uses a very short beam of radiation to see
through your body.
What happens during an X-ray?
Depending on the area being imaged, it can be
as simple as sitting on a chair with your arm on
a table, or standing in front of a screen. Some
examinations will require you to change into a
gown and lie on a table.
Does it hurt?
No. X-rays cannot be felt. You may be asked to
stand or sit in a certain position which can be
uncomfortable.
What if I'm pregnant?
There is a very small risk that X-rays could harm
a developing baby, so in general we will not X-
ray pregnant patients unless it is medically
urgent.
