Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of internal structures within the body. Qualified sonographers perform ultrasound exams by using a handheld device called a transducer, which is moved over the target area to generate real-time images. Clearview Medical Imaging offers a range of ultrasound services, including general, musculoskeletal, obstetric, breast, cardiac, and vascular imaging.
FAQs
Yes, ultrasound exams require an appointment. Please contact our team by phone, in person, or by submitting your referral, and we will provide details on the next available appointment.
Preparation may be required for certain ultrasound exams, such as fasting or arriving with a full bladder. Our team will provide specific instructions at the time of booking, which should be followed closely. You may also be asked to wear an examination gown, and it is recommended to wear a comfortable two-piece outfit. Arriving 15 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork will help avoid delays.
Please bring your referral form, as well as your Medicare or DVA card if applicable. If this is for a work-related injury, your WorkCover claim number may be required, or inform our team if you intend to lodge a claim.
An experienced sonographer will guide you to the examination room, explain the procedure, and assist you in preparing. For most ultrasound scans, you’ll be lying on a bed, though certain exams may require you to sit upright. A gel will be applied to your skin or the transducer to facilitate smooth movement over the area of interest. The ultrasound provides real-time images displayed on a monitor. Once completed, a radiologist—a doctor specialising in radiology—will review the images and prepare a report for your referring healthcare provider.
Clearview Medical Imaging bulkbills most Medicare-eligible services; however, some exams may have an associated fee. Our booking staff will inform you if a fee applies.
Please allow 24 to 48 hours for your report. If your healthcare provider has advised you to return immediately following the scan, please inform one of our staff members. Urgent exams are prioritised, and our team will liaise with the radiologist to ensure a prompt report as needed.
